Racalmuto Food Tour & Sciascia House Visit

We will meet at your chosen time in Piazza Umberto I to begin the food tour of Racalmuto, exploring the life of Leonardo Sciascia, a notable local figure.

As we walk through Racalmuto, we'll see key sites, including the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Monte, established in 1738. Nearby, we will visit the Leonardo Sciascia Museum House to view the furniture and belongings of this author.

Sciascia reflected on his connection to Racalmuto, where he wrote Le parrocchie di Regalpetra. We will continue to the main street to see a bronze statue of him, created by Giuseppe Agnello, and learn about the local mining history at the circle of sulphur and salt miners. We will also visit the historic Regina Margherita theatre, built between 1870 and 1880, which highlights the cultural richness linked to the area's mining industry.

Next, we'll attend a cooking demonstration on making Sicilian nougat, with both theory and tasting involved. Following this, we will visit a resort to taste various types of olive oil, learning about local olive tree characteristics and oil production techniques. We will conclude with a light meal featuring cold meats, cheeses, and local products before finishing the guided tour of Sciascia's birthplace.
