Ravenna Private Tour

  • 2 Stunden

Explore the ancient capital of the Western Roman Empire and discover its history and monuments with this private tour led by a professional English-speaking guide.

Ravenna Private Tour

We will meet at your chosen time outside the Basilica of St. Apollinaris to begin a walking tour of Ravenna's main monuments, including up to eight buildings recognized as World Heritage.

First, we will enter the temple of St. Apolinar, constructed in 505 under King Theodoric the Great. You will learn about the historical periods of Ravenna—Romans, Byzantines, and Visigoths—while admiring the mosaics inside.

Next, we will proceed to the 'Dantesque area', where the remains of Dante Alighieri are interred. We will view the façade of the building housing his tomb and continue to the Neonian baptistery to see the mosaic of Saint John the Baptist baptizing Jesus.

Following this, we will explore Piazza del Popolo, visit Palazzo Rasponi, and arrive at the Basilica of San Vital, known for its Byzantine art mosaics and the adjacent mausoleum of Gala Placidia.

After a two-hour private tour, we will conclude the activity outside the mausoleum or at any central location of your choice.
