Commissioned by Philip V around 1720 to reflect the grandeur of the French court, the palace features a remarkable Marble Room with a ceiling depicting The Abduction of Europa.

The site includes the Spanish Crown Tapestry Museum, home to a significant tapestry collection. Notable works include Los Honores, woven by Pierre van Aelst, and tapestries depicting virtues made for Emperor Charles V in 1520.
