Discover the birthplace of French champagne as you explore the vineyards around Épernay, Hautvillers and Mareuil-sur-Ay with this Champagne Villages Tour from Reims.
Description
We'll meet at the designated time in front of Rheims train station. From here, we'll take a minibus to Épernay, a notable champagne-producing village in France.
In Épernay, we'll walk along the Avenue de Champagne, home to cellars of famous brands such as Moët & Chandon, Pol Roger, Perrier Jouët, and Boizel. We'll also view the Dom Pérignon statue, the monk credited with discovering a key method for making champagne in the 17th century.
The tour will proceed to the vineyards surrounding Épernay, where we'll discuss the 'champagne terroirs'. The next destination will be the village of Hautvillers to visit the church where Dom Pérignon is buried.
We will then visit Mareuil-sur-Ay, specifically Le Clos Corbier, to taste French champagne. This will be accompanied by a traditional lunch featuring three local dishes.
After lunch, we'll visit a family winery for more champagne tastings. The tour concludes with a return to Reims train station, lasting a total of 6 hours and 45 minutes.
