The Snæfellsjökull National Park is known for its landscapes. Experience black sand beaches, villages, the Kirkjufell mountain, and more on this day trip from Reykjavik!
Description
At 9 am, pick-up will be from your selected meeting point in Reykjavik. We will travel across the Snaefellsnes peninsula to the Snæfellsjökull glacier on an active stratovolcano. The snow-capped summit can be seen from Reykjavik.
We will observe landscapes featured in Jules Verne's "Journey to the Centre of the Earth." Discover waterfalls, lakes, rivers, basalt cliffs, fishing villages, and black sand beaches.
Our journey continues to Ytri Tunga Beach and Lýsuhóll. At Ytri Tunga Beach, we may see the seal colony (most visible in summer). A home-cooked lunch will be served at Lýsuhóll Farm before a visit to the stables for the Icelandic horses.
In the afternoon, we will visit the black church of Buðir and the coastal town of Arnarstapi, the fishing village of Hellnar, and Djúpalónssandur, a black beach with views of the coastline and a shipwreck history from 1948.
We will also see the Saxhóll crater and Kirkjufell, known as the most photographed mountain in Iceland and a filming location for "Game of Thrones." Nearby, the villages Grunðarfjorður and Ólafsvík host killer whales and seals.
Our final stop is Leynifoss, the "Sheep Waterfall," where we will view Selvallavatn Lake and a vast lava field. We will return to Reykjavik by around 8 pm.
