Why Visit the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights of Rhodes?
The Grand Master's Palace is a historical testimony to the medieval period and the influence of the Knights of St. John on Rhodes. The building was constructed at the end of the 7th century and transformed into a grand palace in the early 14th century to serve as the seat and residence of the Grand Master until the arrival of the Ottomans in 1522. The concept of the palace was that of a fortress inside a castle, providing defense at the highest point of the city.
With this ticket, you'll tour its halls decorated with mosaics, frescoes and period furniture. Notable areas include the reception rooms, the knights' quarters, and a large courtyard, all restored in the 1930s. The palace also serves as a museum housing collections of artefacts, weapons and works of art.
