On this tour to Cafayate from Termas de Rio Hondo, we'll explore the landscapes of northern Argentina and surrounding areas.
Cafayate Tour
We will pick you up at 5 am at your hotel in Termas de Río Hondo, then head north to visit Cafayate and nearby locations.
Initially, we will depart from Santiago del Estero and enter Tucumán. In Tucumán, we will traverse the expansive landscapes of the Tucumán jungle towards the Angostura dam. Following this, we will proceed to the Abra del Infernillo pass, reaching an altitude of 3042 metres.
On our journey to Cafayate, we will continue through Tucumán, crossing the Calchaquí valleys. Our first stop will be at the Pachamama Museum in Amaicha del Valle, featuring works by sculptor Héctor Cruz, which are tied to regional culture.
Next, we will visit the archaeological site of Quilmes, one of the prominent pre-Columbian sites in northern Argentina, and learn about this ancient settlement. Subsequently, we will enter Salta to reach Cafayate.
Upon arrival, we will take a guided tour of Cafayate, focusing on key monuments, including the cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Rosario, one of only three churches in South America with five naves. An additional highlight is the local Calchaquí wines, with a visit to the Vasija Secreta winery.
After an hour for lunch in Cafayate, we will return to Termas de Río Hondo, arriving by 8 pm.
