Ria Lagartos Mangroves Boat Ride

On this boat ride through the Ria Lagartos mangroves, we will discover the diverse ecosystem of this unique natural environment designated as a Biosphere Reserve.

Description

At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Rio Lagartos boardwalk to embark on a boat ride through the mangroves. We will enter the mangroves located in the estuary of the Ria Lagartos, a natural area on the northern coast of the Yucatan, declared a Biosphere Reserve, home to more than 1,450 plant species. During the journey, we will learn to differentiate the main botanical characteristics of each species.

The Ria Lagartos reserve is known for its great diversity of water birds. During the trip, we will observe different types of cranes, pelicans, and hawks, among others. If conditions are favorable, we may also see the American flamingos.

We will continue our cruise through the mangroves, learning more about this fascinating ecosystem. The cruise will conclude after 2.5 hours at the starting point.

Operating hours

The tour will take place between 7 am and 10 am, as this is when the birds of the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve are most likely to be seen. We will confirm the exact departure time prior to the day of the activity.

The Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve is a prominent location in the Yucatan Peninsula for observing flamingos and other birds. However, sightings may vary depending on factors such as weather and breeding seasons of the species.
