At 7 am, pickup from your hotel in Riobamba and travel to the base of the El Altar Volcano at an altitude of 22,965 feet (7,000 meters). A packed lunch will be provided for the hike along the 9-mile (15-kilometer) route through Sangay National Park. The ascent will showcase diverse flora, including laurels, royal palms, achupallas, ferns, and orchids.
After 7 hours of walking, we will set up tents for the night and enjoy dinner under the night sky of the Ecuadorian Andes.
Day 2: El Altar Volcano - Riobamba
Start with a breakfast to prepare for the day. A bag of food will be provided for the route before we head to the summit. After navigating 1 mile (2 kilometers) of rocky trails, we will reach the El Altar Volcano's summit at 13,451 feet (4,100 meters). From the crater, we will observe the Yellow Lagoon, formed after the volcano's last eruption in the 15th century.
