El Altar Volcano 2-Day Hike

Day 1: Riobamba - El Altar Volcano

At 7 am, pickup will be from your hotel in Riobamba to travel to the base of the El Altar Volcano, located at an altitude of 22,965 feet (7,000 metres). A packed lunch will be provided for the hike along the 9-mile (15-kilometre) route through Sangay National Park. The ascent will feature various regional flora, including laurels, royal palms, achupallas, ferns, and orchids.

After 7 hours of walking, we will set up tents for the night. Dinner will be served under the night sky.

Day 2: El Altar Volcano - Riobamba

The day starts with breakfast. A food bag will be provided for the hike. We will navigate 1 mile (2 kilometres) of rocky trails to reach the El Altar Volcano's summit at 13,451 feet (4,100 metres). Inside the crater, the Yellow Lagoon formed after the volcano's last eruption in the 15th century will be visible. Following this, we will return to the base and board the minibus for the trip back to Riobamba, with a scheduled arrival at your hotel by 4 pm.

This tour includes 1 night's accommodation in tents. The price covers a sleeping bag and mat as well.
