Quilotoa Lagoon Day Trip
At 8 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Riobamba and set off for the Quilotoa Lagoon.
On the way, we'll stop in the village of Zumbahua in the heart of the Ecuadorian Andes. Here, we'll see the canyon of the Toachi River, formed by the flows of the Quilotoa Volcano. We'll also visit Tigua to observe the masks made by local Indigenous communities.
Afterwards, we'll travel to the Quilotoa Lagoon, a lake with a diameter of 8 miles (13 kilometres) located inside a crater, formed 800 years ago by the collapse of the volcanic cone.
We'll head to the edge of the caldera and begin a 1-hour kayak tour through the lagoon’s multicoloured water, with potential sightings of deer or rabbits among the Andean flora.
Next, we'll proceed to the village of Quilotoa for a traditional lunch featuring corn and beans. After your meal, you'll have 1 hour of free time to explore local craftsmanship.
Finally, we'll return to Riobamba, where you'll be dropped off at your hotel by 7 pm.
