Marvel at one of Rome’s most important art and archaeological museums, the Capitoline Museum, followed by a visit to Piazza del Campidoglio, on top of the Capitoline Hill, during a 3-hour guided tour.
Tour Details
Find your way to Piazza del Campidoglio, where your tour will begin with an English-speaking art historian guide. This square, designed by Michelangelo in the sixteenth century, features prominently on Italian 50 cent coins.
The square contains the town hall and the Capitoline Museums, the world's oldest archaeological museum. Your guide will take you through the museum's main rooms, highlighting notable artworks such as the bronze she-wolf nursing Romulus and Remus and the equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius, from the second century A.D.
Following the museum visit, you'll go to the Tabularium viewpoint, which provides panoramic views of the Temple of Veiove, the Roman Forum, and the Palatine Hill. The next stop will be Piazza Venezia to observe the stunning details of the Monument to Victor Emmanuel II, also known as “The cream cake.”
Continuing along Via dei Fori Imperiali, you'll see significant antiquities including the Basilica of Maxentius, the Market, Trajan's Column, and the Forum of Nerva. The tour culminates at the Colosseum, also referred to as the Amphitheatre Flavium, before concluding at the Arch of Constantine.
