Upon entering the Castel Sant'Angelo, your expert guide will discuss the fortress's history. Originally commissioned by Emperor Hadrian as a burial site for his family, it is linked to a legend involving the Archangel Michael during the sixth century plague.

The monument is notable for its various legends associated with popes who converted it into a castle. You will explore rooms utilized by the popes, including Pope Clement VII’s bathroom adorned with Raphael’s frescoes.
