Mount Tarawera Helicopter Ride

Can you imagine flying over a crater? Enjoy this fascinating helicopter ride over Mount Tarawera, the most important active volcano in New Zealand.

Options

When booking, you can choose from the following options, depending on the length of flight you'd prefer. Both start and end at Rotorua City Lakefront.

40-minute ride

On this option, we'll enjoy a 40-minute helicopter ride around Mount Tarawera, responsible for one of the country's most important historical eruptions.

Starting from Rotorua City Lakefront, we'll fly over the impressive lakes of Rotorua, rugged mountains, and see the colours of the Tarawera crater. The helicopter will land at the top of the mountain; you can walk to the edge of the crater and learn about the Maori culture in the region from the pilot. After a 15-minute break at the crater, we'll return to the helicopter and fly back to the starting point.

60-minute ride

The 60-minute ride allows for more sightseeing around Mount Tarawera. This option includes views of the famous Tarawera Falls and the geothermal reservoirs of Waimangu and Wai-O-Tapu. We'll also fly over the Fault Line and part of the Pacific Ring of Fire.
