Why Visit the Basilica of Saint-Denis?

The Basilica of Saint-Denis is a Medieval abbey church and the first example of Gothic architecture, notable for its pointed arches and rib-vaulted ceilings. Visitors can access the basilica to view its historic interior at their own pace. It serves as the burial site for numerous French monarchs, including Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette.

Alongside the tombs, visitors can admire stained glass windows, particularly the rose window, which enhances the cathedral's illumination.

Opening Hours

The Basilica of Saint-Denis operates under the following opening hours:

April 1 - September 30: Monday to Saturday, 10 am - 6:15 pm; Sundays, 12 pm - 6:15 pm.October 1 - March 31: Monday to Saturday, 10 am - 5:15 pm; Sundays, 12 pm - 5:15 pm.

Final admission is 30 minutes before closing. Hours are subject to change.

Partial Closures

The basilica may be closed on certain days due to masses, concerts, and other events. Event dates can be verified through the basilica’s official channels.

January 21: Closed from 12 pm to 2 pm.

Free Admission

Admission is free for:

EU youth aged 18 to 25.Children under 18, regardless of nationality.

Free entry is also available on the first Sunday of the month between January 1 and March 31, and November 1 to December 31, as well as the 3rd weekend of September. To obtain free admission, visit the ticket office with a valid document proving eligibility.
