On this salt island tour, we'll explore secret pools, salt deserts, and swim with friendly yellow lemon sharks.
Description
We begin with hotel pickup to visit Sal, a notable tourist destination in Cape Verde. The tour crosses the volcanic island from south to north, stopping at key locations. We start in Santa Maria, once a salt extraction site, now a vital tourist hub.
For tours from October to March, our next destination is Kite Beach, known for kitesurfing championships, followed by the nature reserve at Murdeira Bay with views of Monte Leon.
Next, we visit Espargos, the island's economic center, and Porto Palmeira, a fishing village. Here, we will stroll through colorful houses and visit the pier to see fishing boats. Lunch will be at a local restaurant offering Sal Island specialties, including meat, pasta, and fresh fish of the day.
After this, we head to Pedra de Lume, the first village on Sal, where we’ll learn about the salt trade and visit its salt flats, the only site globally for swimming in a salt lake within a volcanic caldera.
Next, we explore Miragem, a desert area on Sal, and proceed to the Blue Eye, a natural pool where you’ll have 40 to 60 minutes of free time to swim, depending on sea conditions, and search for the hidden Love Cellar pool.
The tour concludes at Shark Bay to observe lemon sharks closely, before returning to your hotel after 7 hours.
