Sal Sea Turtle Watching at Night

On this nocturnal sea turtle-watching activity on the island of Sal, we will explore a deserted Cape Verde beach to observe these reptiles nesting at night.

Description

After sunset, we will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Maria and transport you to a beach inhabited by Cape Verde loggerhead turtles, the predominant species on Sal. With guidance from your instructor, you will learn how to enjoy the experience while respecting the natural environment. We will observe the turtles as they nest in the sand or head to sea.

You will walk in small groups along the beach to minimize disturbance to the turtles. Infrared lamps will be provided for nighttime photography, ensuring you can capture this experience. After the activity, we will return you to your hotel, approximately 2 hours after pickup.

Pickup is included from hotels or tourist apartments in Espargos, Santa Maria, and Murdeira.

Things to keep in mind

The optimal time to see turtles on the beach is usually between May and October, though turtle sightings can vary due to factors such as weather and breeding seasons.
