On this salt island tour, we'll discover secret pools and salt deserts and swim with friendly yellow lemon sharks.
Description
We'll begin with hotel pickup to explore Sal, a key tourist destination in Cape Verde. The tour traverses the island from south to north, making stops at notable locations. We will first visit Santa Maria, known for its transformation from a salt extraction site to a prominent tourist hub.
If the tour occurs between October and March, our next stop will be Kite Beach, recognized for hosting world kitesurfing championships. Following that, we will visit the nature reserve at Murdeira Bay for views of Monte Leon.
We will then proceed to Espargos, the economic center of Sal, and visit Porto Palmeira. Here, we will explore the fishing village with its colorful houses and piers and enjoy lunch at a local restaurant featuring typical Sal cuisine, including meat, pasta, and fresh fish.
Next, we will visit Pedra de Lume, the first village established on Sal, learn about the salt trade's impact, and explore the unique salt flats where swimming in a salt lake is possible within a volcanic caldera.
We will then stop at Miragem, a desert area showcasing an optical effect of water and salt, before heading to the Blue Eye natural pool for 40 to 60 minutes of swimming time, depending on sea conditions. We will also look for the hidden pool known as Love Cellar.
The tour culminates at Shark Bay for a close encounter with the lemon sharks.
After a total of 7 hours, we will drop you off at your hotel.
