On this salt island tour, we'll discover secret pools, salt deserts, and swim with friendly lemon sharks.
Description
We will pick you up at your hotel to explore the island of Sal, a key tourist destination in Cape Verde. This tour crosses the island from south to north, stopping at notable towns and sites.
First, we will visit Santa Maria, which transitioned from a salt extraction site to a major tourist center. For tours between October and March, our next destination is Kite Beach, renowned for its kitesurfing events. We will then visit the nature reserve at Murdeira Bay for views of Monte Leon.
Next, we will proceed to Espargos, the island's economic center, and then to Porto Palmeira. In this fishing village, we'll stroll past colorful houses and the pier with fishing boats. Lunch will be at a local restaurant featuring typical Sal Island dishes.
Following lunch, we will visit Pedra de Lume, the first village on Sal, to learn about the salt trade and visit the unique salt flats suitable for swimming in a volcanic caldera. Our next stop will be Miragem, a desert offering optical effects of water and salt. We'll also visit the Blue Eye, allowing 40 to 60 minutes for swimming if conditions permit, and seek the local favorite Love Cellar.
The excursion's highlight will be at Shark Bay to observe the lemon sharks up close. We will conclude the tour with a drop-off at your hotel after 7 hours.
