In this bird-watching activity in the Palmas de Cera Sanctuary, participants will see yellow-eared parrots in a renowned birding location in Colombia.
Description
Pickup is at your hotel in Salento or Filandia at the scheduled time to travel to Pijao, located in the Eje Cafetero region.
Following the journey, we will arrive at the main square and board a 4x4 vehicle for the adventure to observe the native birds of the Andean Region.
The trail through the sanctuary of wax palm trees, the national tree of Colombia, begins from this point. The La Palmera trail ascends and includes various observation points for birdwatching.
Bird species we may encounter include marail guans, Andean eagles, white-tailed hawks, golden-headed quetzals, toucans, and yellow-eared parrots, among others. After birdwatching, we will visit a peasant farm for lunch.
Post-lunch, the group will return to the 4x4 and drive back to Pijao, followed by a return to Salento or Filandia, approximately 10 hours after pickup.
