Join us for an unforgettable bird-watching experience in the Palmas de Cera Sanctuary, renowned for its vibrant yellow-eared parrots and an array of exceptional avian species found in Colombia.
Description
Your adventure begins with a convenient pickup from your accommodation in Salento or Filandia, setting off towards the picturesque town of Pijao, situated in the central region of Colombia's Eje Cafetero.
Upon our arrival in the town, we'll make our way to the main square where we'll transfer into a 4x4 vehicle to embark on our quest to observe the diverse wildlife native to the Andean region. How many bird species will we encounter along the way?
We'll venture onto the initial segment of a trail winding through the remarkable sanctuary of wax palm trees, celebrated as the national tree of Colombia. This ascending trail leads us along the La Palmera path, featuring several observational points perfectly positioned for birdwatching amidst the towering palms.
During our exploration, you may spot incredible species such as marail guans, Andean eagles, white-tailed hawks, golden-headed quetzals, and of course, the yellow-eared parrots, along with various other endemic birds that call this sanctuary home. We'll also make time to capture stunning photographs before proceeding to a nearby peasant farm for a delightful lunch.
After enjoying our meal, we'll retrace our steps back to where the 4x4 awaits, and from there, drive back to Pijao. Finally, we'll return you to your original pickup location in Salento or Filandia, completing our journey approximately 10 hours after the departure.
