Tour Highlights
At the appointed time, we'll pick you up at your hotel in Salta and start touring the city to discover those places linked to one of the main battles of the War of Independence of Argentina.
The famous Battle of Salta, which took place on February 20, 1813, marked the victory of the Army of the North under the command of General Manuel Belgrano over the royalist troops commanded by Juan Pío Tristán. We'll learn how this battle took place by going to the Portezuelo area, where the only entrance to the city was located at the time of the confrontation.
We'll continue our tour of Salta in Chachapoyas, where the trails used by the Army of the North patriot troops were located. The next stop will be at the Castañares Farm, where General Belgrano planned the Battle of Salta. We'll discuss the story of the night before this decisive battle.
Afterwards, we'll follow the route to Lomas de Medeiros, where Martina Silva de Gurruchaga led a group of women and gauchos who joined the patriot army. After learning about this history, we'll return to downtown Salta to admire the 20 de Febrero Monument and the Monument to Martin Miguel de Güemes, dedicated to the only Argentine general who died in combat during the War of Independence.
The last stop will be at the Nuestra Señora de la Merced church, where the cross of the Battle of Salta is kept. After this, we'll return to your hotel, with arrival scheduled 4 hours after pickup.
