Salta Guided Exploration
Your adventure begins between 9:30 am and 10 am, with a convenient pickup from your hotel in the city center or a designated meeting point of your choice. Our first destination will be the Salta Cathedral, notable for its pastel rose and yellow tones. This landmark is a highlight of the city, and we will discuss the fascinating history of its construction, following the destruction of the previous structure due to a catastrophic earthquake.
The cathedral is situated at Plaza 9 de Julio, where you can also visit the Museum of High Altitude Archaeology, marvel at the Cuchi Leguizamón sculpture, and see the Cabildo of Salta. This colonial edifice, characterized by its white arches, served as a seat of local governance for centuries. It's recognized as the best-preserved cabildo in Argentina and has been transformed into a remarkable structure.
After a leisurely 5-minute walk, we will arrive at the Church of Saint Francis, often cited as the most beautiful building in Salta. Its striking red façade is sure to catch your eye, while its towering steeple, reaching nearly 180 feet, holds the distinction of being the tallest in South America.
Continuing on, we will visit the Church of San Francisco and the Convent of San Bernardo, allowing us to explore the deep history of Salta, as these are among the city's earliest structures. We will then ascend San Bernardo hill to capture breathtaking panoramic views of Salta from its peak.
At the base of the hill, you'll encounter the monument to General Güemes, a celebrated military leader who played a pivotal role in the Argentinian War of Independence against Spain. Following this, we will venture into the Quebrada de San Lorenzo, a verdant valley filled with lush forests, before stopping at Salta's Artisan Market. This lovely 19th-century building showcases a variety of local handcrafted goods.
After your enriching visit to the market, you will be returned to your hotel by around 1:30 pm.
