Visit the incredible Salinas Grandes salt flat on this day trip from Salta and admire a magnificent "white desert" in the middle of the Andean plateau.

Salinas Grandes Day Trip

Between 7 am and 7:30 am we'll leave Salta and head towards the Quebrada del Toro. We'll do a short hike across its viaduct to take in views of this gorge in northern Argentina. We'll also see the tracks of the Tren a Las Nubes at over 4200 metres, one of the world's highest trains.

Next, we'll travel to Santa Rosa de Tastil and stop in San Antonio de los Cobres for lunch. Afterward, we will pass through other villages before reaching the Salinas Grandes, the third largest salt flat in South America. We will explore this "white desert" at 4,000 metres above sea level, which features a mix of whitish sodium chloride tones with turquoise and brown.

On the return trip, we will stop at Cuesta del Lipan hill and descend to Purmamarca to view the Cerro de los Siete Colores ("Hill of Seven Colours"). After visiting the craft fair in Purmamarca, we will return to Salta, arriving around 7:30 pm.
