Salvador de Bahia African Culture Tour

We will meet at 2 pm in front of the Cathedral Basilica of San Salvador for a walking tour focused on the influence of African culture in Salvador de Bahia, particularly in the Pelourinho neighborhood.

Our first stop is the Terreiro de Jesus, where we will examine the history of colonization in this region through the Jesuit Missions and Portuguese colonization. We will also discuss notable African figures associated with Salvador de Bahia throughout history.

Next, we will head to the Cross of Sao Francisco, where we will cover the establishment in the 19th century of a men's organisation aimed at supporting the black community's struggle for liberation. Additionally, we will highlight important aspects of African culture such as samba and capoeira dances.

We will conclude our tour at the Escola do Olodum, a cultural and educational center, discussing the significance of Carnival in the city.

This guided tour lasts three hours and will end at the Cross of San Francisco.
