On this day trip to Quilombo Kaonge, we'll delve into the historical and cultural roots of this Afro-Brazilian community and taste typical products from the northeast of Brazil.
Description
At the indicated time, we'll pick you up from your hotel in Salvador to begin this day trip to the Quilombo Kaonge community in the Recôncavo Baiano region.
First, we'll head to the town of Santo Amaro, located 111 kilometres (68.9 miles) from the Bahian capital. In this municipality, we'll stroll through streets with century-old mansions and the bustling market, immersing ourselves in the historical roots of the region.
We'll visit the Parish Church of Our Lady of Purification and the Igreja dos Humildes church, a female education centre established in 1817 for orphaned girls and widows.
Our next stop will be at Quilombo Kaonge, where we'll learn about the daily life of this community of descendants of 19th-century slaves from a griot.
We will participate in a cooking workshop, learning to produce palm oil, manioc flour, and herbal syrup. The tour includes a traditional Quilombola lunch featuring chicken, fish moqueca, rice, pirão, caruru, and vatapá.
Finally, we'll conclude our day 7 hours after the activity begins.
