On this day trip to Cotopaxi and the Quilotoa viewpoint, we'll explore the Ecuadorian highlands, featuring one of the highest active volcanoes and an impressive lagoon.
Day Trip Details
We will pick you up in Quito at the specified time and take the Pan-American Highway South, where you can view various ecosystems typical of the Andes.
After 1.5 hours, we arrive at Cotopaxi National Park, home to the Cotopaxi Volcano, Ecuador's second most significant tourist attraction. Enjoy a local tea to help prevent altitude sickness.
As we cross the páramo of the national park, you'll reach the flanks of Cotopaxi Volcano. You can visit the park's museum and the Limpiopungo Lagoon, a remnant of ancient eruptions. A short walk, weather permitting, will lead you to a forest of chuquiragas, native flowers that attract local hummingbirds, located over 4,000 m above sea level.
Next, we will travel southwest to Quilotoa Volcano. After a brief walk, you'll reach the Quilotoa viewpoint for panoramic views of the Quilotoa lagoon, known for its crystal-clear waters. You will have free time for lunch before returning to Quito.
We will conclude the trip approximately 12 hours after pick-up.
