On this day trip to Cotopaxi and the Quilotoa viewpoint, we'll explore the Ecuadorian highlands, visiting one of the world's highest active volcanoes and a remarkable lagoon on the crater of a volcano.
Day Trip Details
We will pick you up in Quito at the designated time and travel along the Pan-American Highway South, appreciating the diverse ecosystems and landscapes of the Andes.
After a 1.5-hour journey, our first stop will be Cotopaxi National Park, home to one of the highest active volcanoes and Ecuador's second most important tourist attraction. You will have a chance to enjoy a local tea that prevents altitude sickness.
As we cross the páramo of the park, you will arrive at the flanks of Cotopaxi Volcano, where you can visit the park's museum and the Limpiopungo Lagoon, formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. Weather permitting, you may enjoy a walk to a forest of chuquiragas, a flower species native to the Andes, situated over 4,000 m (13,123 ft) above sea level.
Afterward, we will continue southwest to Quilotoa Volcano. A short walk will lead you to the Quilotoa viewpoint, offering a panoramic view of the Quilotoa lagoon, noted for its crystal-clear waters.
You will have free time to have lunch before our return to Quito, where we will conclude the day approximately 12 hours after pickup.
