The Great Canyon of Cotundo Day Trip

Between 4:30 and 5 am, we’ll pick you up from your hotel in Quito to begin a journey to the Gran Cañón de Cotundo. The drive to Cotundo will take about 3.5 hours, allowing us to appreciate the lush vegetation of the region.

We will stop in the colonial town of Baeza for an hour to have breakfast and explore this historic town, founded in the 16th century.

We'll arrive at Cotundo at 9:30 am to start our rainforest adventure. Here, you can enjoy the sounds and sights of diverse flora and fauna, with around 500 plant species present.

The next stop is a half-mile trek up the mountain leading to the Gran Cañón de Cotundo, formed by river erosion over thousands of years, creating stunning waterfalls. After 3 hours of free time at the site, we'll have lunch around 2 pm.

During our journey, we will hike, cross several rivers, and explore cave complexes where ancient tribes performed rituals. We will relax in natural pools for an hour, observing ancient geological formations.

We’ll conclude the tour of the caves at around 4:30 pm and return to Quito, arriving back at your hotel by 8 pm.
