Day Trip to El Ceibal

On this boat trip and tour of El Ceibal from Flores, we'll sail the La Pasión River and explore one of the most important Mayan archaeological complexes in Guatemala.

Day Trip to El Ceibal

To begin the tour, we'll pick you up in Flores at your hotel or the airport at 8 am and head to the town of Sayaxché, where a boat will be waiting to take us to our destination.

We'll board the boat and set off on the La Pasión River until we reach the Mayan archaeological complex of El Ceibal, with origins dating back to 400 B.C..

Once disembarked, we will walk along a stretch parallel to the river until we reach the archaeological site, where we'll tour the grounds, including sectors A, C, and D, the circular pyramid, the zoomorphic altar, and the ball game field.

We will also explore the various Causeways connecting the architectural complexes and learn about the building techniques used by the Mayans. The tour will include a look at El Ceibal's collection of stelae, stone shafts carved with figures called glyphs.

After our tour, we'll return by boat to Sayaxché and take the bus back to Flores, with arrival at your hotel scheduled for around 3:30 pm.
