On this guided tour of Balboa Park, we will explore one of San Diego's key landmarks, featuring gardens and architectural sites while learning about their history.
Description
At the scheduled time, we will meet at the designated location and begin our walk through Balboa Park, created in 1868 by Alonzo Horton. The park encompasses 1,400 acres (566 hectares) and has hosted numerous notable events throughout its history, which we will discuss during the tour.
Our first stop will be at the California Tower, built for the Panama-California Exposition of 1915. We will then visit the Alcazar Garden, inspired by Spanish gardens.
Next, we will walk along El Prado, the main avenue of the park, viewing the unique facades of various buildings, including Zoro Gardens, the butterfly garden. We will then proceed to the Spanish Village Art Centre to observe artists at work.
After a coffee break in the park, we'll continue to the Botanical Building, which was the largest wooden lattice structure globally at the time of the 1915 Exposition.
Our tour will conclude at the Plaza de Panama after two hours of exploration.
