Embark on a fascinating day trip to Real de Catorce, where you can explore the remnants of a historic town nestled within the mountainous region of San Luis Potosí's semi-desert landscape. This journey also leads you to one of Mexico’s enchanting Magic Towns.
Real de Catorce Day Trip
We will begin our adventure with a convenient pick-up from your accommodation in San Luis Potosí at the scheduled time. From here, we will travel towards the Magic Town of Real de Catorce located in the mountains.
Crossing the vast Potosí plateau, characterized by abundant cacti and palm trees, we will ascend into the Sierra de Catorce, ultimately reaching the Ogarrio Tunnel. Upon our arrival, a guided tour will introduce you to the prominent attractions of this historic mining town.
In one of the mine's galleries, miners discovered an aquifer while extracting silver. This aquifer caused flooding, leading to the halt of mining activities and the eventual closure of the silver mine, which consequently resulted in the town's abandonment due to economic decline.
Your day will also include 1 hour of leisure time to relish a delightful lunch. Following this break, we will stroll through the charming streets of Real de Catorce, making our way to the Casa de la Moneda, notable for being the first mint established in Mexico.
Our exploration continues as we meander through the Plaza de Armas and visit the Church of the Purísima Concepción, home to the revered image of San Francisco.
At the conclusion of this memorable trip, we will return you to your hotel in San Luis Potosí, arriving approximately 12 hours after departure.
