La Carolina Day Trip
After picking you up from your hotel in San Luis at 7:30 am, we'll set off across the Pancanta Valley to La Carolina. This mining town is named after the Spanish King Charles III.
Upon arrival, we will share the history of the town's "gold fever", associated with the search for gold in the 18th century. This gold was primarily transported by the Spanish to Chile for minting.
We will visit the La Carolina gold mine, where you will be equipped with mining gear and descend through the tunnels to learn about historical gold extraction methods.
Following the guided tour of the mine, we will go to the outskirts of La Carolina to visit the Inti Huasi cave, a significant prehistoric site. Here, we will explore the lifestyle of the hominids that inhabited the caves.
After this, you will have one hour of free time for lunch in La Carolina before we return to your hotel in San Luis, expected arrival around 2:30 pm.
