La Carolina Trip
At 7:30 am, we will pick you up at your hotel in Potrero de los Funes and head to the northern area of the Argentine province of San Luis.
After crossing the Pancanta Valley, we will arrive at La Carolina, a small village at the foot of Tomolasta Hill, named after Spanish King Carlos III. In the 18th century, various gold mines began to operate in this area.
We will discuss the legends surrounding the quest for gold and how the Spanish transported the nuggets to Chile for minting.
Participants will visit an old gold mine in La Carolina and wear miner's rubber boots and lantern helmets for a short, low-difficulty route through the tunnels. The possibility of finding nuggets will be explored.
Next, we will visit the prehistoric Inti Huasi cave to uncover its historical significance, focusing on the lifestyle of the first hominids who inhabited these caves.
After the cave tour, there will be one hour free for lunch in La Carolina. Following lunch, we will return to your hotel in Potrero de los Funes, arriving at approximately 2:30 pm.
