Colorado Volcano Hike

On this hike from San Martín de los Andes, we'll ascend the Colorado Volcano and enjoy views of the Patagonian lakes.

Description

At the indicated time we'll pick you up at your hotel in San Martín de los Andes, from which point we'll drive to the Colorado Volcano, 30 minutes away.

Once we arrive at the foot of this crater, we'll begin a medium-difficulty hiking route lasting a total of 5 hours over an 8.5-kilometre (5.2-mile) trail with an 800-metre (2625-foot) vertical climb.

We'll cross a Patagonian forest to a rocky area, continuing to the summit of the Colorado Volcano, reaching an altitude of 1742 metres (5700 feet). The reddish colour comes from an ancient lava flow, remnants of which we will see during the ascent.

From the top of the Colorado Volcano, we'll enjoy views of the south face of the Lanín volcano and the valleys of the Lácar and Lolog lakes. You can take some time to eat food brought with you.

Finally, we'll walk back to the beginning of the trail, where the vehicle will be waiting to take us back to San Martín de los Andes. Arrival at your hotel is scheduled for 6 hours after pickup.
