Day Trip to Huechulafquen Lake & Lanín Volcano
At 9 am, we'll pick you up from your hotel in downtown San Martin de los Andes and set off to explore two natural wonders in Neuquén province - Huechulafquen Lake and Lanin Volcano in Lanin National Park.
Our first stop will be at the mouth of the Chimehuín River, the source of Huechulafquen Lake. This lake, along with Paimún and Epulafquen lakes, forms an important lake system. There is a legend of a hidden city behind this lake.
Next, we'll visit the town of Junín de los Andes to explore the Nuestra Señora de las Nieves church and Mapuche cultural center. We will proceed through Lanin National Park until we reach Lake Huechulafquen, the largest lake in the area.
Afterwards, you'll have free time for lunch, and once refueled, we'll head towards Lake Huechulafquen to enjoy the best view of the volcano that overlooks it.
We'll also visit Lake Paimún, surrounded by mountains. Its name means "run quietly" in the local language.
On our way back, we'll stop at the Mapuche communities to learn about their lifestyle.
Finally, we'll return to San Martin de los Andes around 6 pm and drop you back off at your hotel.
