Venture into the heart of the province of Neuquén to discover the village of Villa Pehuenia. We'll see fairytale houses, lakes, bays, and an exotic forest.
Day Trip to Villa Pehuenia
We'll pick you up at 8 am at your hotel in downtown San Martin de los Andes and start the tour of the province of Neuquen.
We will pass by the town of Aluminé and border the river for almost 100 kilometers (62 miles). We will enter the famous Pehuenia Circuit, a route framed by a forest of trees known as "pehuén" in the Mapuche language, connecting Lakes Pulmarí, Ñorquinco, Moquehue, and Aluminé.
We will continue the drive to the edge of the crater of the Batea Mahuida volcano, an extinct volcano on the border between Argentina and Chile. At approximately 2000 meters (6,560 feet) above sea level, we will go on a short hike around the crater, now a lagoon with crystalline waters. From the summit, you will see the Moquehue and Aluminé lakes as well as the Chilean volcanoes Icalma, Sollipulli, and Villarrica.
After descending from the volcano, we will pass through La Angostura, a narrow channel that connects the Aluminé and Moquehue lakes on our way to Villa Pehuenia.
In Villa Pehuenia, we will visit its various peninsulas and bays, recognized for their unique landscapes at the foot of the Patagonian Andes. We will also learn about the village, founded in the early 90s, and its buildings integrated into the surrounding araucaria forests.
Finally, we will return to San Martín de los Andes, arriving at your hotel around 8 pm.
