In this excursion to Santiago del Estero, we'll explore the "Mother of Cities," a key city in northwestern Argentina with a rich legacy.
Tour Highlights
We will pick you up at your hotel in Tucumán and travel south to Santiago del Estero, one of the oldest cities in the region and significant in the former Viceroyalty of La Plata.
Upon arrival, we will begin a tour of Santiago del Estero, visiting key locations such as the Plaza de la Libertad (Liberty Square), where we will see the cathedral of Nuestra Señora del Carmen and the Cultural Center of the Bicentennial, previously the Cabildo.
Next, we will stop at the church of Santo Domingo, which contains the Holy Shroud, an important relic in northwestern Argentina. After learning its history, you will have the option to buy lunch at a nearby restaurant.
Post-lunch, we will visit the outskirts of Santiago del Estero to see the patio of Indio Froilán, a well-known luthier, who will demonstrate how he creates musical instruments, including the bombo legüero (bass drum).
Following our visit, we will return, making a brief stop at Termas de Río Hondo to tour its waterfront, the Central Dam, and the shopping center.
The excursion concludes at your hotel in Tucumán, lasting a total of 10 hours.
