Atacama Salt Flats Tour

The Licancabur Volcano, the salt flats of Aguas Calientes, and the salt flats of Quisquiro are key highlights of this excursion in the Atacama Desert, exploring the Chilean Altiplano.

Salt Flats Route

Pickup will be at your hotel in San Pedro de Atacama at the specified time. We will travel towards the Andes Mountains, covering 150 kilometers by bus while enjoying a light breakfast onboard. During this journey, observe the region’s flora and fauna, culminating at the Licancabur volcano, which stands over 5,900 meters (19,356 feet) high.

The cone of this stratovolcano enhances the landscape of the Altiplano, along with highlights like the Quepiaco wetlands, located at the base of the volcanic range. Following this, we will stop to capture photographs at the Monjes de la Pakana, unique geological formations ancient cultures revered.

A meal break will occur around midday; lunch may be had en route, featuring a main dish and drink, or at a restaurant, offering a choice of two main dishes and a drink.

We will then visit the salt flats of Aguas Calientes and Quisquiro, showcasing striking white expanses reminiscent of another world. Our last stop will be Laguna Negra, known for its distinct coloration. The tour concludes with a return to San Pedro de Atacama, lasting approximately 7.5-8 hours.

Pickup Info

The tour includes pickup from hotels within 5 kilometers (3.10 miles) of San Pedro de Atacama's center. Options for closer (up to 2 kilometers) or farther (up to 10 kilometers) pickups may be available. Note that pick-ups from nearby towns like Ayllus, Solor, Cucuter, and Toconao are not included.
