On this hiking route along the Puritama River, we will explore the waters with curative properties and experience natural pools.

Puritama River Gorge Hiking Tour

At the scheduled time, we will meet at unit 2, 429B Tocopilla Street in San Pedro de Atacama to travel towards the Puritama River valley, covering 45 kilometers (27 miles) by bus to reach the hike's starting point.

The riverbed is noted for its numerous waterfalls and natural pools, some with hydrothermal properties. Erosion has shaped the river basin, leading to high walls that create a canyon.

We will hike along the Puritama River gorge for half an hour, following the Atacameño people who have used the therapeutic waters for centuries. Throughout the hike, participants will observe the local flora and fauna of the Chilean altiplano.

At the end of the hike, a thermal pool with crystalline waters awaits, providing two hours for relaxation and bathing.

After the visit, the bus will transport us back to San Pedro de Atacama, with an expected return to the town’s central square 4 hours after departure.
