Itata Valley Wineries & Vineyards Experience
Our journey begins at 9 am as we set off from your accommodation in Concepción towards the Itata Valley, recognized as one of the premier wine-producing regions in central Chile.
The first destination will be a historic winery in Portezuelo, a charming town situated to the north of where the Ñuble and Itata rivers converge. Here, during our visit to the vineyards, we'll delve into the story behind this agricultural practice, first brought to Chile over 200 years ago by the Jesuits.
While exploring these vineyards, we will encounter three unique grape varieties: País, Cinsault, and Moscatel. Each variety boasts distinct characteristics, which we will learn to identify during a wine tasting session at the winery. Additionally, you will have the chance to sample chupilca, a beloved local drink made from red wine mixed with toasted flour.
Our next stop will be in Chillán, a lovely town within the Itata Valley. Here, we will explore the traditional market, showcasing a diverse selection of local crafts. You will have an hour for lunch to enjoy local cuisine before we proceed to visit a vineyard located in Bulnes.
At this vineyard, you will discover which grape varieties thrive in the region and enjoy a sampling of the wines produced in their cellar. Subsequently, we will make our way back to your hotel in Concepción, where we expect to arrive around 10 pm.
