Day Trip Overview
Your adventure begins with a pick-up from your hotel in San Ramon, from where we will travel north into the province of Oxapampa, highlighting two main towns along our route.
Our first stop will be the Mezapata viewpoint, where you can take in the stunning views of the Paucartambo river bridge, which serves as the natural boundary separating the Junín and Pasco regions.
Upon reaching Chontabamba, we will explore its main square and the town’s wooden church, which showcases the distinctive Austro-German architectural style. This visit will allow us to delve into the history of the European settlers in the Oxapampa region during the 19th century.
Next, we will proceed to the Tunqui Cave, a formation renowned for its stunning display of stalactites and stalagmites. Following the cave, we will visit the La Floralp dairy factory, where you will discover the production process of various milk-based products, including cheese, butter, and yogurt.
After this insightful visit, we will head to the town of Oxapampa, where you will have time to enjoy lunch and sample the local culinary offerings.
Following the meal break, a guided tour of Oxapampa will take you through its most significant locations: the Plaza de Armas, the Colonists’ promenade, and the church of Santa Rosa, an aesthetically pleasing wooden structure influenced by Austro-German design.
After fully experiencing the European heritage intertwined within these two towns, we will make our way back to San Ramón. You can expect to be returned to your hotel approximately 10 to 11 hours after the start of the trip.
