Experience a Mexican Winter Solstice Ceremony

December 20

At 4 pm we'll pick you up at your hotel in Huatulco for a trip to La Ventanilla beach. Upon arrival, we will learn about the significance of the solstice, marking changes in season and the start of a new cycle. A shaman will lead a ritual that highlights the cultural importance of this event. We will release a turtle into the sea to the sound of drums, bidding farewell to the sun and welcoming the longest night. After approximately 6 hours, we'll return to your hotel in Huatulco.

December 21

At 3:30 am, we will depart from your hotel in Huatulco to La Ventanilla beach. We will be welcomed with drum music and conch shell sounds, starting the winter solstice ceremony. We will settle in to watch the sunrise as the sun crosses the famous Ventanilla rock. After sunrise, we will participate in the ceremony with the shaman and the town's children's cultural group, followed by breakfast at a seaside restaurant before returning to your hotel in Huatulco.
