December 20
At 4 pm, pickup will be at your hotel in Huatulco for a trip to La Ventanilla Beach. Upon arrival, the significance of the solstice celebration will be explained. In the northern hemisphere, it marks the change of season and length of nights, while in this town, it signifies the beginning of a new cycle.
A shaman will guide a unique ritual, highlighting the ceremony's importance and cultural impact. Participants will also release a turtle into the sea accompanied by drums, bidding farewell to the sun and welcoming the longest night of the year. The return to your hotel in Huatulco will be 6 hours later.
December 21
At 3:30 am, departure will be from your hotel in Huatulco to La Ventanilla Beach. Participants will be welcomed by drum music and conch shell sounds to begin the winter solstice ceremony. On the beach, they will settle in to watch the sunrise and see how the sun crosses the famous Ventanilla rock.
After sunrise, the ceremony with the shaman will take place, celebrating the beginning of the cycle with a local children's cultural group. A breakfast at a seaside restaurant will follow before returning to the hotel in Huatulco.
