If you're a Gabriel García Márquez fan, our Aracataca Day Trip is perfect for you. You'll travel to the author's hometown and explore the places that inspired him to create 'Macondo', the fictional town in One Hundred Years of Solitude.
Aracataca Day Trip
Gabriel García Márquez's novel One Hundred Years of Solitude is a cornerstone of 20th-century literature. We will pick you up from your hotel in Santa Marta at 8 am and travel to the inspiration for this landmark novel.
After a 90-minute drive, we will arrive in Aracataca. García Márquez, a Nobel Prize laureate in 1982, drew inspiration from his birthplace to create Macondo, where much of One Hundred Years of Solitude is set, embodying the literary style of magical realism.
Our tour of Aracataca will commence at the Telegrapher's House, a site containing several copies of García Márquez's works, recognized as a World Heritage Site. We will also visit the author's birthplace and San José Church, where he was baptized.
During the tour, we will explore other significant sites in Aracataca, including the school where García Márquez studied and the Remedios the Beauty Municipal Library.
At the conclusion of our tour, we will return to your hotel in Santa Marta, expecting to arrive by approximately 4 pm.
