Day Trip Overview

After an early pickup from your hotel in Santa Marta, we'll journey northeast for approximately 1.5 hours, arriving at Tayrona Park. This stunning location sits nestled between the Caribbean Sea and the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta.

Upon arrival, a short orientation on nature conservation will set the stage for our adventure as we begin our exploration of the park's jungle trails.

For a total of 4 hours, we will wander among towering trees reaching heights of 82 ft (25 m), uncovering the biodiversity of Tayrona National Park. With a bit of luck, you may also catch glimpses of iguanas, howler monkeys, ocelots, anteaters, and solitary eagles.

As we proceed to the Caribbean shore, we will stroll along the picturesque beaches of Cañaveral, Arrecifes, Arenilla, and La Piscina. We will then continue to Cape San Juan del Guía, one of Tayrona's most famous areas.

During your time here, you can delight in the local cuisine at nearby eateries. Afterward, we will visit Cape San Juan's viewpoint to take in breathtaking panoramic views of the Colombian landscape.

Finally, we will make our way back to Santa Marta, completing the day's adventure and returning you to your accommodation approximately 11 hours after departure.

Hiking Information

On this excursion, you will embark on a 16-km (9.9 mi) hike of medium difficulty, which will take about 4 hours to complete: 2 hours of walking, followed by 2 hours for the return journey.

Speedboat Options

When booking, you can select from three different options regarding the speedboat ride from Cabo San Juan to Santa Marta Bay.

Tour with return boat trip: If you select this option, you will return by boat from Cabo San Juan to Santa Marta Bay, allowing you to avoid a 2-hour walk and enjoy additional time at Cape San Juan and its beaches until 4 pm, when the speedboat departs. Note: this option does not include hotel transfers in Santa Marta.

Tour with round-trip speedboat service: Choosing this option means traveling by speedboat both ways, eliminating the need for the hike. This option does include hotel transfers after the tour; however, it does not provide a guide, only a boat skipper.

Hotel Pickup Information

This tour offers pickup and drop-off at hotels in the Bello Horizonte, Rodadero, and central Santa Marta areas. For accommodations located near the airport, via Cienaga, or in Taganga, a supplemental fee of 20 USD per person will apply on the day of the trip.

Keep in mind that both trekking options for the Tayrona Park Day Trip will commence at 6:30 am, while the speedboat-only option will begin at 9:30 am.
