Pilgrimage Day: Santo Toribio de Liebana Way

Our pilgrimage day begins with a drive from Santander to Potes, lasting approximately two hours, where you can admire the Cantabrian landscapes, including La Hermida Gorge.

Upon arrival in Potes, you will receive directions for the hike to the Santo Toribio de Liébana Monastery, a 6th-century site housing a relic of the True Cross. You will have free time to explore Potes before starting the hike.

The pilgrimage route from Potes covers just under 2 miles (3 kilometers) with steep sections, taking about 45 minutes to reach the monastery. At midday, we'll attend the pilgrim's mass there, and you will have the opportunity to touch the relic.

After the mass, we will visit the chapel and viewpoint of St Michael for views of the Picos de Europa mountains before returning to Potes by minibus for a traditional Lebaniego stew at a local restaurant.

In the afternoon, you will have around two hours of free time to explore Potes, visiting sites like the Casa del Oso Pardo and Torre del Infantado or browsing local shops.

We will then head to San Sebastian de Garabandal, where apparitions of the Virgin Mary occurred in the 1960s. We will visit the village and the site of the visions at Los Pinos.

Finally, we will return to Santander, arriving around 7:30 pm.
