Discover the famous Beach of the Cathedrals and its impressive rock shapes with this trip from Santiago de Compostela. You'll also visit Lugo and Ribadeo!
Day Trip Details
We'll meet at the Plaza de Galicia square and leave Santiago de Compostela to head northeast. After a road journey, we'll arrive at Lugo, known for its walls, which are more than 7,000 feet long.
Once there, we'll take a guided tour of the historic center of Lugo for an hour and a half. Highlights include the cathedral of Santa María, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the Roman wall, one of the best-preserved in the Iberian Peninsula.
After the tour of Lugo, we'll visit the Cathedrals beach (Aguas Santas). This beach is named for its rock formations that resemble the flying buttresses of Gothic shrines. We will take a walk during low tide, allowing us to explore under the arches, which are more than 100 feet high. The site has been designated a Natural Monument.
Next, we will visit the town of Ribadeo, located close to Cathedrals beach. We will admire the façade of its neoclassical Casa Consistorial and other monuments. You will also have free time to taste Galician cuisine.
After this visit, we will return to the bus and go back to Santiago de Compostela where the excursion concludes.
