On this excursion to La Gran Piedra from Santiago de Cuba, we will explore a massive volcanic rock situated in southern Cuba.
La Gran Piedra Excursion
Pickup will occur at your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba at 9 am. After a one-hour bus ride, we will reach the Sierra Maestra mountain range, home to La Gran Piedra.
This colossal volcanic rock measures 51 meters (167 feet) long and 30 meters (98 feet) wide, weighing over 60,000 tons. We will ascend the 452 steps to the summit, which reaches 1,225 meters (over 4,000 feet) above sea level, offering stunning views.
After descending, we will visit the coffee plantation of La Isabelica, including a tour of the hacienda and its museum, recognized as a World Heritage Site. Here, we will learn about the history of French-Haitian emigration and its influence on agriculture in southern Cuba.
We will then proceed to the local restaurant Terrazas La Caridad for a Creole-style lunch, followed by a traditional coffee ritual.
Finally, we will return to your accommodation in Santiago de Cuba, with an expected arrival time of 3 pm.
