Immerse yourself in the mysterious culture of the Canchis province and visit its administrative centre on our Machu Pitumarka Day Trip from Cusco. You'll also explore a fascinating archaeological site.

Machu Pitumarka Day Trip

At 8 am, we will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco and drive south to the district of Pitumarca. The archaeological site of Machu Pitumarka, located at an altitude of 11,370 feet (3,465 metres), is the administrative and religious centre of the unknown Canchis culture.

The Canchis controlled access to the valley from this site, although they could not prevent the Incas from occupying the territory. Machu Pitumarka was a place of transit of notable significance, referenced in the chronicles of historians like Inca Garcilaso de la Vega.

During our visit, we'll explore the three sectors of the enclosure. The first sector contains six rectangular structures called pircas. The second sector offers a view of the snow-capped Ausangate Mountain, at 21,000 feet (6,400 metres). The third sector, positioned at the lowest part of this site, features small structures likely used as dwellings during the Inca period.

Following our exploration, we'll begin our return to Cusco. En route, we'll visit the colonial church of the Immaculate Conception of Checacupe, an architectural jewel made from adobe, before passing the colonial bridge of Checacupe built in the 17th century. We will also stop in Huaro to admire the Church of St. John the Baptist, a work by Cusquenian painter Tadeo Escalante.

We will return to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel at around 5 pm.
