In this free tour of Santiago, we'll walk through the centre of the Chilean capital and see the Changing of the Presidential Guard at La Moneda Palace. You can't miss it!
Description
At the indicated time, we'll meet at the Plaza de Armas to begin this free tour of Santiago. We will explore the presidential seat of the Republic of Chile, stopping in front of the main facade of La Moneda Palace to watch the changing of the guard of the carabineros.
After the guard ceremony, we will learn about La Moneda’s history, which dates back to the colonial era, and discuss the coup d'état of 1973 and the death of President Salvador Allende.
We will continue the tour passing by other city highlights, such as the Palacio de los Tribunales de Justicia and the former National Congress, which was closed in 1973 during Augusto Pinochet's military government.
The route will also take us to Plaza de Armas, where we will learn about the city's Inca past, admire the exterior of the Cathedral, and uncover its history and secrets.
Finally, after a tour of approximately 2 hours, we will conclude back at the starting point, next to the equestrian statue of Pedro de Valdivia.
Changing of the Guard
Please note that due to unforeseen circumstances, the changing of the guard does not take place outside La Moneda Palace.
