Immerse yourself in the culture of the Inca civilization by visiting a ceremonial centre near Cusco on our Vitcos Day Trip.
Vitcos Day Trip
We will pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 2 am and set off for the district of Vilcabamba. During the trip, we will cross the Sacred Valley of the Incas and part of the Abra Malaga Route, with peaks at 14,160 feet (4,316 meters). We will then descend through the Lucumayo Valley and cross the Vilcanota River via the Chaullay Bridge.
Upon arrival at the village of Huancacalle, you will have free time for the breakfast you bring. From here, we will hike to the Vitcos archaeological complex, the site of the assassination of monarch Manco Inca II. While enjoying views of the Vilcabamba valley at 8,860 feet (2,700 meters) above sea level, we will discuss the history of this site.
In Vitcos, you will see pink stone constructions, also known as Rosaspata. We will explore the main square, ceremonial monuments, and the Wanca. Another highlight will be the White Rock, featuring carvings of the Inca Cross or Chakana.
Afterwards, we will pass through Lucma to view the Baroque-style Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, built over an Inca oratory using materials from the Incahuarakana archaeological complex.
Lastly, we will stop at a local restaurant for lunch on your own before returning to Cusco, arriving at your hotel around 9 pm.
