Delve into the rich heritage of the Inca civilization with a visit to a ceremonial site located near Cusco on this enriching day excursion to Vitcos. Experience the magic of the past as you explore this archaeological treasure.

Vitcos Day Trip

Your adventure begins with an early morning pickup from your hotel in Cusco at 2 am, as we embark towards the Vilcabamba district. This early rise promises a rewarding journey ahead! During our route, we will traverse the Sacred Valley of the Incas and navigate the Abra Malaga Route, where peaks soar to an impressive 14,160 feet (4,316 meters). Our descent will take us through the breathtaking Lucumayo Valley as we cross the Vilcanota River via the Chaullay Bridge.

Upon reaching the village of Huancacalle, you can enjoy a leisurely breakfast with the provisions you’ve brought. Following this, we will set out on a hiking trail leading to the Vitcos archaeological complex, famously known as the site of the assassination of monarch Manco Inca II. Here, you will be treated to stunning vistas of the Vilcabamba Valley, which lies at an elevation of 8,860 feet (2,700 meters) above sea level, while we share the intriguing history of this enigmatic location.

At Vitcos, the exquisite pink stone structures will captivate you, earning this site its alternative name, Rosaspata. We will examine its three main sections, including the central square, the ceremonial monuments, and the Wanca, a revered space for the local inhabitants. Among the key features we will encounter is the White Rock, adorned with symbolism of the Inca Cross or Chakana.

After our exploration, we’ll return to the bus and pass through Lucma, where you can admire the colonial Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, crafted in Baroque style. Historians note that this church was constructed atop an Inca oratory and incorporates materials from the Incahuarakana archaeological complex. The bell tower and mural paintings will also be part of our cultural experience.

To conclude our journey, we will pause at a local eatery, allowing time for you to have lunch at your leisure before heading back to Cusco. We aim to return to your hotel by 9 pm.
