Immerse yourself in the culture of the Inca civilization by visiting a ceremonial centre near Cusco on our Vitcos Day Trip. You'll feel like you've travelled back in time during this trip to the archaeological site.
Vitcos Day Trip
We'll pick you up from your hotel in Cusco at 2 am and set off for the district of Vilcabamba. The journey includes crossing the Sacred Valley of the Incas and part of the Abra Malaga Route, reaching peaks of 14,160 feet (4,316 meters). We will descend through the Lucumayo Valley and cross the Vilcanota River via the Chaullay Bridge.
Upon arrival at the village of Huancacalle, you will have free time for breakfast. From there, we start a hiking route to the Vitcos archaeological complex, where the monarch Manco Inca II was assassinated. We will discuss the history of this location while enjoying views of the Vilcabamba valley, situated at 8,860 feet (2,700 meters) above sea level.
In Vitcos, we will explore the pink stone constructions, also known as Rosaspata. The site contains three sectors housing the main square, ceremonial monuments, and the Wanca, a sacred area. We will also view the White Rock, featuring the Inca Cross or Chakana.
Afterwards, we will continue to Lucma to see the colonial Church of St. Peter and St. Paul, built in Baroque style, which historians say was constructed over an Inca oratory using materials from the archaeological complex of Incahuarakana. You will also see its bell tower and murals.
Finally, we will stop at a local restaurant for lunch on your own before returning to Cusco, where we will arrive at your hotel by 9 pm.
