Since its opening in 1977, the Santillana del Mar Zoo has been a significant attraction in this Cantabrian town, particularly for families. The zoo features a diverse array of animals and focuses on the conservation of endangered species. Visitors can see animals from all five continents, as well as explore Quaternary Park, which showcases fauna from the era of the man of Altamira.

The zoo houses over 20 species, including primates, tigers, lions, panthers, butterflies, flamingos, pelicans, bats, and several farm animals like sheep, chickens, donkeys, and ponies.

The average visit lasts two and a half hours, but guests are welcome to stay on the premises as long as they wish during opening hours. There is also a cafeteria and picnic areas available for food.
