Santo Domingo Beyond the Walls Tour

On this tour of Santo Domingo, we will visit several key areas beyond the walls of the Colonial City, including Santa Bárbara, the Modelo Market, the Malecón, and Chinatown.

Description

We will meet at the scheduled time next to the Museum of the Royal Houses and begin our tour of Santo Domingo, exploring the surroundings of the Dominican capital. We will first head north, passing the walled city while discussing the history of slavery in the country and visiting La Negrera, where slaves were brought for sale.

Next, we will explore the neighbourhood of Santa Bárbara, known for its graffiti and historic sites, including the Castrense Cathedral. We will then proceed to the Santa Bárbara Fort for city views.

Our tour will take us to Chinatown, where we will learn about the local Chinese community while enjoying the streets filled with stalls with local products.

We will also visit the Modelo Market, known for its artisan goods. Finally, we will reach the Santo Domingo promenade to see the male and female obelisks.

The tour concludes with our return to the starting point after 2 hours.
