Santo Domingo Beyond the Walls Tour

On this tour of Santo Domingo, we will explore areas beyond the Colonial City walls including Santa Bárbara, Modelo Market, the Malecón, and Chinatown.

Description

We will meet next to the Museum of the Royal Houses at the scheduled time to begin this tour of Santo Domingo and discover the surrounding area. Our journey will start by heading north along the walled city, recounting the history of slavery in the country, including a visit to La Negrera, where slaves historically entered for sale.

Next, we will explore the neighbourhood of Santa Bárbara, noting its graffiti and historic landmarks such as the Castrense Cathedral. This will be followed by a visit to the Santa Bárbara Fort for panoramic views of the city.

We will then proceed to Chinatown, learning about the Chinese community in Santo Domingo while exploring the local streets. Our next stop will be the Modelo Market, featuring artisan goods. We will conclude at the Santo Domingo promenade, viewing the male and female obelisks.

After 2 hours, we will return to the starting point to conclude this tour.
