Fort of San Carlos Tour + Boat Ride
At the appointed time, we'll meet on Calle Juan de la Cosa to begin this guided tour of the Fort of San Carlos. We will first walk approximately 3 kilometers to reach the fort, discussing the significance of these defensive constructions in Santoña.
Upon arrival, we'll enter the fort to explore its strategic position and its role in preventing access to the bay. Santoña was historically referred to as the Gibraltar of the North, being crucial for naval interests in the 17th and 18th centuries.
After the fort visit, we'll embark on a one-hour boat ride to the Caballo Lighthouse, constructed in 1863. The lighthouse, located on a hill overlooking Santoña and the Bay of Biscay, offers a scenic backdrop ideal for photographs.
After two and a half hours, we will conclude the activity at the port of Santoña.
